Associate Director

Esther van de Geijn

Esther works on initial sketches, layouts and designs as Associate Director of BLDA. Her extensive design experience was formed by her education at Eindhoven University of Technology, and at Berlin’s University of the Arts - where working in a second language for architectural concepts meant her sketches needed to be strong enough to speak for themselves.

Since then, her creative eye for shape and organic line has seen Esther design a range of mid to high-rise mixed use and contemporary high-end residential schemes, including the Shepherd Street scheme in Mayfair. She also delivered a £12m project for a major high street department store, followed by a £57m high spec office development in Central London. She was responsible for the interior architectural fit out for the award-winning Cornwall Terrace.

Adept at finding solutions for all kinds of layouts, Esther visualises a client’s brief with clear design and language. She is skilled at understanding the financial contours of a project, and advising on where budget is best placed. Her philosophy is that architectural design is a conversation and she believes it is important to dedicate time to presenting her sketches, discussing her methodology, and opening an honest dialogue.

Esther values collaboration with a hands-on and forward-thinking approach: guiding clients towards the possibilities of their brief, and inviting them to see how their vision comes to life at each stage of the journey.
